“When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices.” – Luke 15:5, NRSV-CE

In the hustle and bustle of life, it can be easy to lose our way. Sometimes the path God wants us to walk is not always clear. However, if we allow Him to, Jesus will show us the way home.

In the gospel of Luke 15:1-7, Jesus told the story of a shepherd who had one hundred sheep, and one of them went missing. Well known as “The Parable of the Lost Sheep”, this story teaches us an important lesson about our good and loving God.

In this story, the shepherd went after one lost sheep. When he found the sheep, he rejoiced and placed the sheep on his shoulders (Lk 15:5). When the shepherd returned home to his flock and friends, he rejoiced in finding this one lost sheep (Lk 15:6). Jesus teaches us through this parable that just as the shepherd rejoiced over his one lost sheep, “. . . there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance” (Lk 15:7). Heaven rejoices when its citizens find their way back to God. Jesus cares about you. He knows your story. And there is still hope to come home to Him.

In this life, we all will wander at some point from His loving embrace. However, the parable of the lost sheep teaches us that there will be much rejoicing when we finally find our way back to Him. For anyone who has found themselves lost (knowingly or unknowingly) and far from God, it is never too late to find your way back to Him. We can always allow ourselves to be found by Jesus.

In Christ,

Lauren
